Comtesse Deborah Mayfair de Montcleve lived in the towers known as, 'Chateau de Montcleve' and was referred to as, 'Bride of Satan' or the 'Witch of Montcleve', because she retained her beauty during and after the severe torture she received and having her head shaved and extremely thin from starvation.
Deborah had raven hair and was totally bewilderingly beautiful. She was the loving wife to the Comte de Montcleve and doting mother to her three children, Charlotte, Philippe and Chretien.
The Comte fell from his horse while riding in the forest and Deborah could not heal him as his injuries were too deep inside. He begged and begged her to heal him and when he realised that she could not and would not heal him, he accused her of witchcraft, saying that she must of poisoned him for his treacherous affair with Comtesse de Chamillart from Carcassonne.
The Comte's mother found a doll carved crudely of wood with a head made of bone and eyes and mouth drawn upon it with black hair fixed to it, jewels and gold and silk and said that Deborah surely meant to steal all of this when her husband was dead, even though it was known, that the jewels and fortune was Deborah's. Her youngest son, Chretien, claimed to have seen his mother speak to the doll and he thought it to be from Satan and Philippe claimed that he knew his mother to be a witch.
Charlotte fled the village when her mother was arrested. She left with her husband and child and went to Saint-Domingue, Hispaniola.
Deborah never confessed, the only words she spoke were, "Roelant, Roelant" and "Petyr", people unknown to the Villager's, so they were thought to be names of the devil.
In her final moments, as she was led down to be burnt at the stake, she summoned down Lasher, "Come now, my Lasher, be my avenger, strike down my enemies!" "I see you, Lasher, I know you! I call you!" "Destroy my sons, destroy my accusers! Destroy those who have come to see me die!"
Lasher destroyed the village and killed almost everyone, but not before Louvier pushed her from the church window and she fell to her death and then was finally burnt.
