my thoughts on interview with the vampire - the movie

Interview With The Vampire, the movie was released in October, 1994. Made from the best selling novel, it sparked interest from dedicated readers immediately. For the none readers, the stars in the movie attracted them.

The movie rights had been sold to Paramount 8 years earlier, now the movie was finally filmed. The movie was a huge success and made approximately $35 million dollars and broke many seasons and ratings records.

The movie had a big cast to go with a big budget. Starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Stephen Rea, Kirsten Dundst and Christian Slater.

Tom Cruise, was not Anne Rice's idea of Lestat to start with, but even she agreed that he played the roll of Lestat exactly as Lestat, he WAS Lestat. He was beautiful yet deadly, cheeky yet serious, looked devinely sincere and sweet yet extremely deadly. He was all Lestat and more.

Brad Pitt, our storyteller, our beloved Louis. He showed us the caring, devasted, loving, confused, hurt, torn and serious Louis. He made us fall in love with him and had us crying with him over Claudia's death then on the edge of our seats when he was enraged.

Antonio Banderas, quite simply, Armand. He was dark, luring, enticing, sensual and even sexual. He captured your attention the moment he appeared on the screen.

Stephen Rea, his appearance as Santiago is brief, yet memorable. He was responsible for the death of Claudia and in essence, the destruction of the Theatre and Coven in Paris, as this was the reaction his actions caused.

Kirsten Dundst, the gorgeous child vampire. She ran chills up our spines with her cunning smile and her viciousness, then she would melt us with that wonderfully innocent childlike smile. So hard to believe that she is a child when she plays the adult so well.

Christian Slater, the reporter. Not much was seen of him, but what was seen made us want to be there, be the one being told the tale, yet not want to be in his shoes, for we knew the story he was hearing was a true story, yet he didn't realise this until the very end.

I truely loved the movie, it was brilliant, my only complaint is that I feel the story drifted too far from the actual novel.
