It is 1791 and plantation owner Louis de Pointe du Lac has nothing to live for. His young wife has died and so he looks for death himself. Going from bar to bar drinking and whore to whore trying to find a disease that will end his pain, Louis unknowingly crosses the path of a vampire. Lestat offers Louis the choice he was never given and takes him from this mortal life of pain and into immortality, where he will never again feel pain or be affected by disease, but more importantly, he will live forever.
In 1991, Louis is followed by a young reporter looking for a story. Instead of taking his life, Louis instead chooses to tell the story of his life, the life of a vampire, one that began 200 years earlier.
